Effortless Style Comes with Simplicity

I first came across this brand on Mr Porter a few weeks back, but recollect having seen it before. I was taken with the simple black hoody with ‘Reigning Champ’ in white emblazoned on the front, but not too big it looks naff!

As with all brands like this when I see them on an online shop, I go to the company website to have more of a deep dive. I must say I was impressed with what I saw. This is quite a crowded market, in what you might say is ‘athleisure’ for men, but when you go basic, but high quality you really can’t beat it. I can see in the past they have taken influence from sports to create capsule collections which aren’t tacky, but classic. The current collection is rowing, having also done football and rugby before. I must admit their rowing polo with the stripe in the old fabric you get on the letters of letterman jackets is a real stroke of genius.

Vancouver is also one of my spiritual cities, and Reigning Champ started out there, so I feel an affinity already.

Price point, it isn’t too bad. Not pricey, and not too punchy. I think I will be looking for a few statement pieces.

The only thing I find confusing is the sizing, but I always get this with foreign brands. I don’t think you can go by ‘this model is 6’2” and wears a medium’ as it just doesn’t work for us ordinary guys. I don’t know about you, but I can be small in one brand, and extra large in another! I suppose I will have to give it a go. Let’s hope it comes up in the Mr Porter of End Clothing sale so I can try out the sizing, and then maybe I can order direct from Canada!
